For over six decades, Aughtersons Lawyers has proudly served the people of Ringwood and Melbourne’s eastern suburbs.

Celebrating 60 Years of Legal Excellence in Ringwood

For 60 years, Aughtersons Lawyers has been a cornerstone of the Ringwood community, providing trusted legal advice across generations. From its beginnings in a small Heathmont residence to becoming one of the most respected firms in Melbourne’s eastern suburbs, the Aughtersons story is one of growth, resilience, and a deep commitment to clients.

The Early Years: Bill Aughterson’s Vision

On 1 April 1964, William (Bill) Aughterson established his legal practice from his Heathmont home at 10 Devon Avenue. Later that year, he moved to Station Entrance in Ringwood before relocating to larger offices at the Drive-In Shopping Centre on Whitehorse Road.

Bill’s practice quickly became known for its professionalism and client-focused service. In 1965, he welcomed his first articled clerk, Tony Giblett, who would go on to play a pivotal role in the firm’s growth.

Building Partnerships and a Strong Foundation

By the late 1960s and early 1970s, Aughtersons had expanded, operating under various names including Aughterson and Lamb and later Aughterson Lamb and Williams. During this period, many respected lawyers joined the firm, including Brian and Margaret Williams, who, alongside Tony Giblett, purchased the practice from Bill in 1972.

Bill moved on to establish a successful practice in England, but the Ringwood firm continued to thrive. Over the next decade, talented lawyers such as Tom Hassard and Gary Vick became partners, further strengthening Aughtersons’ reputation.

A New Era: Becoming Aughtersons

On 1 May 1979, the firm adopted the name Aughtersons, which it has proudly carried ever since. Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, the practice grew under the leadership of partners including Peter Milford, Gary Vick, and Richard de Gille.

In 1993, Aughtersons moved to its current home at 267 Maroondah Highway, Ringwood. This relocation marked a new chapter, providing a modern base to continue serving the growing needs of clients in Melbourne’s eastern suburbs.

Transition to an Incorporated Legal Practice

From 1 January 2014, Aughtersons transitioned into an Incorporated Legal Practice, becoming Aughtersons Lawyers Pty Ltd. This allowed the firm to maintain its strong traditions while embracing new opportunities for growth and innovation.

Directors such as Santina Della-Rossa, who began as an articled clerk in 1999, and Nisar Parkar, who joined in 2010, helped guide the firm into the modern era. Following the retirements of long-serving directors Peter Milford and Glen Egerton, leadership passed to a new generation.

Today, Aughtersons is proudly directed by Santina Della-Rossa, Liam O’Brien, and Kathy Adams, continuing a legacy of excellence and integrity.

Looking Ahead: Serving Ringwood for the Next 60 Years

While much has changed since 1964, Aughtersons’ values remain the same—delivering trusted, practical legal advice and building lasting relationships with clients. From commercial law and property to family law, wills and estates, litigation, and more, the firm continues to adapt to meet the evolving needs of the community.

As Aughtersons celebrates 60 years, it does so not only with pride in its history but with a clear focus on the future. For the people of Ringwood and beyond, Aughtersons remains a name synonymous with legal excellence.
